Charles R. Lowery Jr. Wins as D.C. Bar President-Elect

Charles R. Lowery Jr., director of legislative policy and external affairs at New American Funding, has been elected president-elect of the D.C. Bar for the 2022–2023 term. He will serve in that position for one year starting July 1 before becoming president in 2023. He will continue in office a third year as immediate past president. With Lowery’s installation, incumbent President-Elect Ellen M. Jakovic will become the Bar’s 51st president.

Superior Court Proposes Amendments to Civil Procedure Rule 5

The D.C. Superior Court Rules Committee has completed its review of proposed amendments to Rule 5 of the Superior Court Rules of Civil Procedure. Amendments to Rule 5(d) clarify that discovery materials must not be filed except in the circumstances specified in the rule.

JNC Recommends Nine Candidates for Superior Court Vacancies

The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has recommended nine attorneys for President Biden’s consideration to fill the judicial vacancies on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia created by the retirement of Judges Fern Flanagan Saddler, William M. Jackson, and Gerald I. Fisher.

Superior Court Issues Orders Regarding Probate Fiduciary Panel

On May 25 the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 22-06 reestablishing the Probate Fiduciary Panel. The presiding judge of the Probate Division seeks applicants for the Probate Fiduciary Panel from qualified attorneys, including current panel members.
