Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby of the D.C. Court of Appeals and Chief Judge Milton C. Lee, Jr., of the D.C. Superior Court have released the 14th annual Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, recognizing the contributions of those D.C. Bar members and other lawyers authorized to perform pro bono legal work in the District of Columbia who completed 50 hours or more of pro bono service during the prior calendar year.

On April 29, D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby and D.C. Superior Court Chief Judge Anita Josey-Herring released the 13th annual Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll , recognizing 5,032 attorneys who completed 50 hours or more of pro bono service during the last calendar year.

On April 25, the District of Columbia bench and bar came together at the D.C. Bar headquarters for the 2024 Judicial Leadership Luncheon. Themed “Next Generation of the D.C. Bar: Preparing for the Future,” the event highlighted some of the challenges the D.C. Bar, the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, and the D.C. Courts are facing as well as some their respective accomplishments.

D.C. Bar President Charles R. Lowery Jr. and D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center Executive Director Kelli Neptune joined more than 100 representatives of legal services organizations on April 25 in calling for the restoration of more than $21 million in access to justice funding that D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is seeking to cut in her fiscal year 2025 budget proposal.

The D.C. Bar joins the legal community in mourning the loss of civil rights champion Stephen J. Pollak, former president of the Bar and who many considered the “godfather” of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center. Pollak passed away on February 3 at age 95.
