The D.C. Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure is inviting comments on the qualifications and fitness of Judge Anthony C. Epstein and Judge Heidi M. Pasichow, who are each seeking reappointment to a 15-year term as associate judge on the D.C. Superior Court. Their current terms expire on August 24, 2023.

The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has selected Marie C. Johns, former deputy administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in the Obama administration, and Benjamin F. Wilson, former chair of Beveridge & Diamond, PC, as the commission’s new chair and vice chair, respectively.

Bar Board of Governors is seeking candidates for appointment this spring to the Attorney/Client Arbitration Board, Clients’ Security Fund, Legal Ethics Committee, Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee, Board on Professional Responsibility (BPR) of the D.C. Court of Appeals, and board of directors of the DC Bar Foundation. The deadline to apply for these vacancies is March 17, 2023.

D.C. Superior Court Chief Judge Anita Josey-Herring swore in six new associate judges on January 17, a welcome development amid growing calls from city officials and those in the legal community for Congress to address the vacancy crisis at the court. With the new additions, the court still has seven unfilled seats, with an anticipated three more vacancies by mid-March.

Judge Theodore R. Newman Jr., the first Black chief judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals and the first Black jurist nationally to head a state-level court system, died on January 6 of a heart attack. He was 88.
