Judicial Nomination Commission Announces Superior Court Vacancy

On February 5 the D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission announced a vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia resulting from the retirement of Judge Jennifer Anderson, effective March 22, 2024. The commission invites qualified individuals to apply for the vacancies by noon on March 21. Application materials and instructions are available on the JNC website. Please note that the application forms were recently revised.

Apply to the Superior Court’s Family Court Panels

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia seeks qualified attorneys to apply for its Family Court Panels, which represent low-income parties in several types of proceedings, including abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, mental health and mental habilitation, juvenile post-commitment, and special education.

Superior Court Extends Deadlines for Probate Fiduciary Panel Appointment

On January 31 the chief judge of D.C. Superior Court issued Administrative Order 24-01 modifying the deadlines for the Probate Fiduciary Panel application process as detailed in Order 23-25. The presiding judge of the Probate Division is now accepting applications through March 29, 2024, from qualified attorneys who seek a position on the panel.

Court of Appeals Approves First Comprehensive Changes to Rules Governing the Bar

On January 10 the D.C. Court of Appeals adopted comprehensive amendments to the Rules Governing the District of Columbia Bar. These amendments mark the first time since the Bar’s founding more than 50 years ago that the Rules have been comprehensively reviewed and updated.
