Supreme Court Review Takes Deep Dive Into Top Employment Cases of the Past Term

With a 6–3 conservative majority, the U.S. Supreme Court issued several landmark rulings during its 2021–22 term, including on hot-button issues relating to guns, abortion, and religion. On December 13, employment law expert Robert B. Fitzpatrick led a D.C. Bar virtual program summarizing some of the Court’s key holdings in cases dealing with employment law and arbitration.

Jack Metzler Joins ODC as Senior Assistant Disciplinary Counsel

The District of Columbia Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) has appointed Jack Metzler as senior assistant disciplinary counsel in charge of the office’s appellate division. Metzler will succeed Myles Lynk, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Legal Leaders Join BADC in Celebrating Its 150th Anniversary

Bar leaders and legal luminaries gathered at the Capital Hilton on December 3 for an awards gala celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC). Established in 1871, BADC is one of the oldest voluntary bar associations in the country.

D.C. Superior Court Approves Multiple Rules Amendments

On November 18 the Board of Judges of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued a series of promulgation orders approving amendments to Rules of Civil Procedure 5, 6, 37, and 43; Rule of Criminal Procedure 43; Juvenile Proceedings Rules 9 and 43; and Domestic Relations Rule 43.

2023 Judicial Evaluation Survey Now Open

Each year the D.C. Bar Judicial Evaluation Committee invites Bar members who have appeared before certain selected judges on the D.C. Court of Appeals and D.C. Superior Court to provide feedback to help improve judges’ performance and further the courts’ commitment to the administration of justice. This year’s evaluation period runs from November 15 to January 13.
