Superior Court Enacts Amendments to Civil Procedure Rules

June 27, 2022

On June 24 the D.C. Superior Court Board of Judges issued Rule Promulgation Order 22-09  approving amendments to Superior Court Rules of Civil Procedure 3-I, 5, 10-I, 39, 40-I, and 79. The revisions address technical and functional changes necessary to implement the court’s new case management system.

Under Rule 5, a person represented by an attorney must file electronically, unless nonelectronic filing is allowed by the court for good cause or is allowed by administrative order. An unrepresented person may file electronically if that person consents to being served electronically. Proposed changes to the other rules concern confidential addresses and specific designations for real property filings and jury trial docketing.

The enacted revisions take effect immediately and shall govern all proceedings commenced thereafter.
