D.C. Bar Members Get Free Access to Smokeball’s Trust & Billing Software

February 18, 2025

The D.C. Bar has partnered with Smokeball, an industry leader in legal practice management software, to provide Bar members free access to Smokeball Bill, a comprehensive trust accounting and billing solution for solo and small firm practitioners.

Handling trust accounting and billing processes manually can result in compliance mistakes and increase the risk of malpractice claims, but Smokeball Bill streamlines the process, making it easier for legal professionals to comply with trust accounting regulations. Additionally, the software simplifies invoicing and bill collection, ensuring a smoother financial management experience for firms.

By partnering with Smokeball, Bar members can now more easily keep their caseloads financially organized and compliantly manage their clients’ trust accounts. “We strive to deliver programs and services to our members that promote professional integrity and conduct, ultimately aiding in expanding access to justice,” said David Chu, director of membership at the D.C. Bar. “Smokeball Bill has the potential to help our members navigate trust accounting, improve service to their clients, and build their practice."

Teaming up with the D.C. Bar is the latest in Smokeball’s string of free product partnerships with bar associations, including the New York State Bar Association, California Lawyers Association, and State Bar of Texas.

“Joining forces with the D.C. Bar was a natural fit,” said Jane Oxley, chief revenue officer and cofounder of Smokeball. “It’s a privilege to be part of their journey, providing members with technology tools that enhance the practice of law, especially as the legal landscape continues to evolve.”
