Attorney Mental Health Research Notification

May 18, 2020

The D.C. Bar and the California Lawyers Association (CLA) are participating in a new research project on attorney mental health. The project is led by attorney mental health and well-being expert Patrick Krill (J.D., LL.M, M.A.) and Justin Anker (Ph.D.) from the University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry.

The anonymous and confidential survey will investigate a range of individual risk factors for mental health and substance use problems (stress, anxiety, depression, behavioral motives, and reasons for substance use) as well as cultural and workplace risk factors (job burnout, toxic goals, attitudes toward substance use and self-care, availability and utilization of support resources).

There will be 80,000 individuals randomly selected from the D.C. Bar and the CLA (40,000 members from each organization) and invited to participate in this research study. If you are selected, you will receive an email from the D.C. Bar or the CLA with more information about the study and a link to complete the survey. This survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Data collected in this survey will not be shared with the D.C. Bar or the CLA. All survey responses will be anonymous and go directly to the University of Minnesota, which maintains the confidentiality of all data. No identifying information will be asked, and all data will be de-identified, including IP addresses.
