Bar Seeks Candidates for Various Committee Vacancies

The D.C. Bar Board of Governors is seeking candidates for appointment in the fall to the following standing committees: Clients’ Security Fund, Communities, Continuing Legal Education, Governance, Innovations in Legal Practice, Lawyer Assistance, Leadership Development, and Pro Bono.

The deadline to apply for these vacancies is June 28. Descriptions of D.C. Bar standing committees can be found here.

Nonlawyer candidates are encouraged to apply for appointment to the Lawyer Assistance Committee.  

To apply for any of these openings, please submit a résumé and cover letter stating the committee(s) you would like to serve on and a description of relevant work or volunteer experience. Leadership experience with D.C. Bar committees, voluntary bar associations, or the Bar’s Communities is highly desirable.

Committee appointments will be approved by the Board of Governors in September. All applicants will be notified regarding the status of their applications shortly thereafter.

D.C. Courts Unveil Moultrie Courthouse C Street Addition

On September 25, the District of Columbia Courts officially opened the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse C Street Addition, which houses six courtrooms, 18 judges’ chambers, a new chief judge suite, holding spaces, and a childcare center. The expansion has enabled the D.C. Courts to successfully consolidate D.C. Superior Court’s Family Court and provide additional space for staff previously stationed at the courts’ Gallery Place offices.

Comment on Reappointment of Superior Court Judges Demeo and Richter

The D.C. Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure invites comments on the qualifications and fitness of D.C. Superior Court Judges Marisa J. Demeo, who is seeking reappointment to a 15-year term as associate judge, and Robert I. Richter, who is applying for reappointment to a two-year term as senior judge.

On September 19 the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 24-14 appointing 159 full and provisional members of the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel of attorneys.
