Superior Court Enacts Amendments to Small Claims Rules

March 18, 2022

On March 17 the D.C. Superior Court Board of Judges issued Rule Promulgation Order 22-04 approving amendments to Rules 3, 4, 18, and 19 of the Rules of Procedure for the Small Claims and Conciliation Branch. The enacted revisions, which take effect immediately, highlight the new pleading requirements and attorney’s fees provisions included in emergency, temporary, and permanent legislation amending D.C. Code § 28-3814 (Debt collection). New subsections in Rule 4 permit the court to authorize an alternative means of service and to allow posting on the court’s website when a plaintiff is unable to pay the cost of publication.
