Board Report and Orders (March 17, 2025)

Summary: In re Melanie Murray Mfume (aka Melanie Murray Johnson). Bar No. 986367. March 17, 2025. The Board on Professional Responsibility recommended that the D.C. Court of Appeals publicly censure Mfume and order that she certify completion of six hours of CLE courses to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel within one year of the date of its order for violations of Maryland Rules 19-301.2(a) (failing to consult with client), 19-301.3 (absence of diligence and promptness), and 19-301.4(a) and (b) (failing to communicate and timely explain client matter). While representing a client who sought help in resolving overdue condominium fees, Mfume failed to provide diligent and zealous representation by not ensuring that her legal advice about a matter of significant gravity was correct and failed to timely and substantively communicate crucial information to the client about her case, which prejudiced the client.
