Superior Court Extends Background Check Deadline for CJA/CCAN Investigators

October 05, 2020

By Jeremy Conrad

On October 2 the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 20-13 extending background check deadlines for Criminal Justice Act (CJA) and Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) program investigators.

The reestablishment of the CJA/CCAN Investigator Panel takes place every four years, and every two years the investigator panel members must undergo a background check. However, due to the current pandemic and reduced government operations, there have been delays in obtaining the required background checks.

Administrative Order 20-13 extends the period in which panel members can complete a background check. Updated FBI and local background check results are now required no later than June 30, 2021. Panel members must also submit a complete certification of good standing to the Office of the Public Defender Service by October 30, 2020.
