Superior Court Amends Rules Emergency Order

Due to the continuing spike in coronavirus cases, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia has modified its November 21, 2021, order regarding the rules emergency. Civil jury trials scheduled through February 11, 2022, and new jury trials in the Criminal Division scheduled through February 10 will be continued to the earliest possible date after February 11. Any ongoing jury trials will be completed as soon as possible.

Until further notice, calendars for U.S. Attorney’s Office and D.C. Office of the Attorney General citation arraignment/diversion, the Mental Health Community Court, and the Superior Court Drug Intervention Program will proceed entirely remotely. In cases where a hold is requested, newly arrested defendants will be brought into Courtroom C-10. Visit the court’s website for more information on remote appearances.

Superior Court Creates New Processes for Sealing or Expungement of Cases

In light of a high volume of automatic sealing or expungement of cases attributed to the Second Chance Amendment Act, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia has created new processes to facilitate more effective handling of motions to seal, expunge, and set aside cases.
