Milton C. Lee Jr. Named Chief Judge of D.C. Superior Court

Judge Milton C. Lee Jr.The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has designated Judge Milton C. Lee Jr. to serve as chief judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, effective October 1, 2024.

Judge Lee has devoted his legal career to serving the citizens of the District of Columbia. Lee obtained his JD from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 1985. Following law school, he joined the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia as a staff attorney, representing clients in the Family, Misdemeanor, and Felony Divisions of the Superior Court. In late 1997 Lee joined the Superior Court as a hearing commissioner, a position that was redesignated in 2002 as magistrate judge. Lee served as the presiding magistrate judge from 2006 until 2010, when President Obama appointed him to serve as an associate judge.

Bar has named retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer as the recipient of its 2026 Thurgood Marshall Award for his extraordinary commitment and initiative in pursuing equal justice and opportunity for all Americans. Breyer will be recognized at the Bar’s annual Celebration of Leadership on June 18.

D.C. Bar Welcomes 27 Attorneys to 2026 Leadership Academy

On April 10 the D.C. Bar CLE Program welcomed the 12th class of the John Payton Leadership Academy, an interactive three-month training program designed to cultivate attorneys’ leadership skills for success in a dynamic and competitive marketplace.
