Bar Seeks Candidates for Various Committee and Board Vacancies

July 05, 2022

The D.C. Bar Board of Governors is seeking candidates for appointment in the fall to the following standing committees: Clients’ Security Fund, Communities, Continuing Legal Education, Global Legal Practice, Judicial Evaluation, Lawyer Assistance, Leadership Development, Nominations, Pro Bono, and Regulations/Rules/Board Procedures.

The deadline to apply for these vacancies is August 12. Descriptions of D.C. Bar standing committees can be found here.

Also, the Bar is seeking candidates to fill an unexpired term on the D.C. Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure (CJDT). Applicants for the CJDT must be active members of the D.C. Bar, engaged in the practice of law in the District for at least five successive years preceding their appointment, and bona fide residents of the District of Columbia. Candidates should have significant experience in the local D.C. Courts and be willing to invest substantial time into the commission’s important work. The person appointed to fill this unexpired term will serve through 2024 and be eligible for reappointment to a full six-year term. The deadline to apply for this opening is August 19.

Additionally, the Bar is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the board of directors of the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP). Candidates must be licensed attorneys who are supportive of the Legal Services Corporation Act and have an interest in, and knowledge of, the delivery of quality legal services to low-income individuals. The application deadline is September 12.

To apply for any of these openings, please submit a résumé and a cover letter stating the committee(s) and/or board on which you would like to serve and a description of relevant work or volunteer experience. Leadership experience with D.C. Bar committees, voluntary bar associations, or the Bar’s Communities is highly desirable.

For the CJDT term, submit materials to [email protected]. For the other vacancies, submit materials to Crystal White, board and committee liaison, at [email protected].

Committee appointments will be approved by the Board of Governors in October. Appointments to the NLSP board will be made in November. All applicants will be notified regarding the status of their applications shortly thereafter.
