Bar Seeks Candidates for Global Legal Practice Committee Vacancy

The D.C. Bar Board of Governors is seeking lawyer and nonlawyer candidates for appointment to its Global Legal Practice Committee. Appointments to the standing committee are for two-year terms. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 30.

To apply for this opening, please submit a résumé and cover letter describing relevant work or volunteer experience. Leadership experience with D.C. Bar committees, voluntary bar associations, or the Bar’s Communities (formerly Sections) is highly desirable.

Court of Appeals Specifies When a Flat Fee Is Earned

In re Alexei, decided August 1, 2024, by the D.C. Court of Appeals, holds that absent an agreement specifying to the contrary, an attorney earns a flat-fee payment only upon completion of all enlisted services. The court announced its interpretation of Rule 1.15 of the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct for the first time, clarifying an issue previously addressed in In re Mance. The opinion, issued less than three months after oral argument, is here.
