Superior Court Increases Fees for Expert Services

July 27, 2022

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 22-15  on July 25 increasing compensation for expert services in Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act and compassionate release cases and motions from $1,600 to $2,400, with prior authorization from the assigned judge. The revised fees apply to Criminal Justice Act and Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect attorneys as well as those representing juveniles in post-conviction delinquency cases where juveniles have been committed to the Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services.

In addition, the order, which amends Administrative Order 09-06, also caps the maximum annual amount of compensation for expert fees at $10,000 to permit the court to operate within its authorized budget.

The increase for expert fees to $2,400 and the $10,000 cap also apply in cases where an attorney is authorized by the court to represent a client pro bono or is a student attorney with a law school clinic.

These changes take effect immediately.
