JNC Seeks Nominations for D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Position

On October 17 the D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) announced that the current term of D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby will expire March 17, 2025. Judge Blackburne-Rigsby is eligible for redesignation for another four-year term and has notified the commission of her interest in being redesignated.

Active Court of Appeals judges are eligible to apply for the position. The commission invites any individual, organization, or bar association to submit a written nomination of an eligible active judge with the judge’s consent.

All statements of interest, nominations, and application materials must be received by the commission by 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Materials should be submitted electronically using a secure portal on the commission’s website at www.jnc.dc.gov. Hard-copy application materials will no longer be accepted.

The JNC will publish the candidates’ names and statements of interest and accept comments from the bench, bar, and public by 5 p.m. on January 3, 2025.

JNC Announces Superior Court Vacancy

The D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) is inviting qualified individuals to apply for a vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia resulting from the resignation of Judge Maurice A. Ross, effective February 27, 2026. The deadline to apply for the vacancy is noon on March 12.

The D.C. Bar is paying tribute to Robert Lester Weinberg, president of the Bar from 1978 to 1979, who died of natural causes on February 19 at his home in Arlington, Virginia. He was 94.
