Summary: In re Jan C. Smith. Bar No. 956375. March 3, 2022. In a reciprocal matter from Virginia, the D.C. Court of Appeals imposed reciprocal discipline and suspended Smith for one year and one day. In Virginia, Smith admitted that while serving as an elected commonwealth’s attorney, he falsely stated that a judge had expressed doubts about whether the commonwealth could prove its case in a criminal matter, causing the judge to recuse himself from the case.
