Court of Appeals Updates Order on Remote D.C. Bar Exam

June 10, 2020

By Jeremy Conrad

On June 10 the District of Columbia Court of Appeals issued an order updating its June 8 announcement that the court will administer a remote D.C. bar exam on October 5 and 6, 2020, in lieu of the previously scheduled September Uniform Bar Exam (UBE).

The remote exam will have fewer questions than the UBE, but it will cover the same range of topics. Applicants are required to provide their own computers with webcam and internet access for the exam.

While the remote D.C. bar exam will not produce a portable UBE score, the Court of Appeals said that its Committee on Admissions will continue to consult with other UBE jurisdictions to coordinate reciprocal acceptance of remote bar exam scores.

The court also announced that it has made arrangements for applicants who wish to withdraw and request a refund. Such requests may be directed to [email protected]. The deadline for refund requests is September 15. Applicants may also credit their fees to a future application, to take place no later than July 2021, by emailing [email protected].

The order also contains information about the timing and process for application, registration, and requests for accommodation. Read the full order here.

The D.C. bar exam is handled exclusively by the D.C. Court of Appeals Committee on Admissions. The D.C. Bar does not set any policy relating to the exam. For questions, please reach out to the Committee on admissions at [email protected].
