Superior Court Announces New Hourly Rate for Attorneys Providing Defender Services

On August 28 the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 24-10  regarding compensation for attorneys appointed under the D.C. Criminal Justice Act (CJA), Counsel for Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN), and Guardianship Fund.

Attorneys providing defender services for the CJA, CCAN, and Guardianship Fund will be paid $110 per hour  for all new cases initiated on or after January 1, 2023. In addition, attorneys entitled to compensation from the CJA shall be paid at the $110 hourly rate for all replacement counsel appointments for Criminal Felony 1 cases initiated between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2022.

The order is effective September 1, 2024.

Superior Court Order Allows CJCC to Access Juvenile Records

On September 6 the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 24-12 authorizing the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to inspect, compile, and analyze data on criminal justice and juvenile justice systems so it can regularly publish aggregate data pursuant to DC Law 25-175.
