Board on Professional Responsibility Approves Rules Amendments

On August 5, the D.C. Court of Appeals Board on Professional Responsibility issued Administrative Order 2024-2  approving amendments to Board Rules 3.11, 4.2, 7.1, 7.6, 7.12, 7.14, 9.7, 9.8, 11.1, 11.2, 11.4, 12.1, 13.1, 13.4, 15.2, 17.7, 19.2, 19.5, 19.6, and 19.8. The new rules take effect immediately.

The most significant changes include an extended deadline for deferral requests from 5 to 10 days (Rule 4.2), greater detail regarding the burden of establishing unadjudicated acts of misconduct (Rule 9.8(b)), revised guidelines for remote testimony (Rule 11.4), and updates to the format of submissions to the Board, Hearing committees, and Disciplinary Counsel (Rule 19.8).

Superior Court Order Allows CJCC to Access Juvenile Records

On September 6 the Superior Court of the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 24-12 authorizing the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to inspect, compile, and analyze data on criminal justice and juvenile justice systems so it can regularly publish aggregate data pursuant to DC Law 25-175.
